                        BIOSAFETY

 Biosafety is the prevention of large scale loss of biological intigrity focusing both ecology and human health B

Biosafety is to prevent us from harmful substance
Due to growing concerns arising from GMOs throughout the world the UNIDO/WHO/FAO/UNEP has built up an informal working group on biosafety.In 1991,this group prepared the ''voluntery code of conduct for the Release of organism into the environment ''.The ICGEB has also played an important role in the relate issue related to biosafety and the environmentally sustainable use of biotechnology .The ICGEB organise annual workshops on biosafety and on risk assessment for the release of GMOs.it collaborates with the management of UNDO'S BINAS aimed at monitoring the global development in regulatory issues in biotechnology. Since september 1998, The ICGEB has provided an on-line bibliographic data on biosafety and risk assessment for the environmental relese of GMOs.

Biotechnology is safe when practiced properly . Benefits deriving from biotechnological innovation will lead to major improvements in the health and well being of the world populations

                                                              Topic of concerns

1 RISK FOR HUMAN HEALTH
* toxicity and food quality
* allergies
* pathogens drug resistent
2 RISK FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
3 RISK FOR THE AGRICULTURE
4 GENERAL CONCERNS

                                                       Medical biotechnology

Medical biotechnology is the branch of biotechnology that deals specifically with human health care and
method of treatment through the development of  medicine such as antibiotics.

 It is also known as red biotechnology

The maximum benefits of biotechnology has been utilised by health care.Biotechnology derived proteins and polypeptide from the new class of potential drugs. For example,insulin was primarily extracted from slaughter animals. Since 1982, human insulin (Humulin*) has been produced by microorganism in fermenters. similarly,hepatitis B vaccines viz.,Recombivax HB (from Merk),Guni (from shantha biotechnics Ltd, Hydabad), shanvac (Biological E.Laboratry,etc.are the genetically engineered vaccines produced biotechnologically. Since 1987, the number of biotechnology derived new protein drugs has surpassed the new chemical drugs (padh, 1996)
                                                    With the advancement of gene manipulation in organism the science have led to a new revolution in biology which is called gene revoluton. Thus the roots of today's biotechnology lies chemistry.physics and biology
